Rising up from the Mediterranean to over 3000m, the Catalan Pyrenees – sun-drenched in summer, snow-capped in winter – boast some of Spain’s most dramatic mountain scenery, and so much more. This comprehensive tour of the Catalan Pyrenees takes in all the highlights…

In the far west, the National Park of Aiguestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici offers accessible hiking in stunning, alpine scenery. In the picturesque Val d’Aran and Vall de Boí below, delightfully preserved villages huddle around 11th century early Romanesque churches creating a truly enchanting, timeless landscape.

Head east through Cerdanya, with its benign micro-climate, between Andorra and the Sierra de Cadí to the pretty lakeside resort of Puigcerdá, and on to the Vall de Nuria where you’ll ride the rack railway up to 2000m.

Approaching the Costa Brava the Volcanic Park of La Garrotxa, offers a totally different landscape as well as ‘Cuina Volcanica’ a unique local cuisine and, in Santa Pau, Besalú and Castellfollit, some of Spain’s prettiest medieval villages.
