Nestled in the Asturian mountains at the foot of the Sierra del Sueve yet only fifteen minutes’ drive away from the beaches and unspoilt fishing villages, Palacio de Libardon offers a perfect rural retreat and at the same time a great base for exploring Asturias.

The hotel itself is a fine example of a ‘Casona de Indianos’, the palaces built by adventurers returning from Latin America, and consists of two main buildings, the main part dating from the 18th century and several outbuildings forming a typical Asturian ‘Quintana’.

It has been recently and lovingly restored by the owner and her family, returning from Mexico to their Asturian roots, achieving a good balance between period authenticity and creature comforts.

One of the most striking features is the large gallery which enjoys great views to the mountains and seems to flood with sunshine even on the dullest days but wherever you look in the hotel you’ll find lovely period details – and then there’s the gardens! With 3000 square meters of grounds and gardens set in and amongst the buildings providing several different spaces for guests to relax and enjoy the tranquility of the surroundings you may not want to go out exploring after all!

The owners will give you the warmest of welcomes and help to make sure you get the most out of your visit to Asturias.

Libardon, North Spain

Set at the foot of the beautiful Sierra de Sueve, with good access both to the beaches near Colunga and up into the Picos de Europa mountains, Libardon is not so much a village as a neighbourhood, but with an interesting past. Many of the houses here were built on the fortunes of adventurers returned from Latin America in the distinctive colonial style known as Casa de los Indianos, the best example of which is the Palacio de Libardon hotel.

Its other claim to fame is that it is the bithplace of one of Asturias' greatest bagpipe players and on a misty day you can really feel the Celtic connection!
