Cosgaya, a tiny hamlet in the municipality of Camaleno, 450 metres above sea level, is a small farming village on the road between Potes and Fuente De where the famous cable car whisks you up to the peaks.
Towering above is the dramatic Monte Subiedes with its colony of vultures and down below the River Deva gushes energetically through the gorge.
Legend has it that here is where the moors were finally expelled from the North when Monte Subiedes collapsed on them and where Don Pelayo was crowned. There is a monument nearby to commemorate the event.
Though there are no shops, there are a couple of good family run bar/restaurants serving tasty, traditional local dishes. For most facilities, Potes, the nearest town is at 9 kms.
- A great base for walkers and cyclists. The easy walk up to the pretty village of Mogrovejo with its medieval tower should not be missed!
- Take the cable car up to the heights at Fuente De and enjoy the walks at the top.
- Many outdoor activity companies in Potes offering all sorts of activities.
- Explore the interesting medieval town of Potes.
- Sample the gastronomy of the region at many family run restaurants – cocido lebaniego, the local dish, not to be missed!
- Birdwatching. From the garden you will be amazed by the vultures and many other species.
