Hotel Can Miquel
HCMG1, Cala de Montgo, Catalonia
Family run beach-side hotel in the Costa Brava
A dream location, right on the superb beach of Cala Montgó, here you can enjoy all the benefits and services of L'Escala without the hustle and bustle and one of the best coves the Costa Brava has to offer.
Built in the 80s by the current owners' parents, the hotel has been thoroughly modernised with great attention to detail. The most recent addition, an adults-only heated ,infinity pool and chill-out area nicely complements the family pool area which is already very generously sized for a small hotel right on the beach.
To the beach side there are two terraces making the most of those amazing views, one for the restaurant which is also the breakfast area, the other a barbeque grill / bar. To the other side of the hotel a large peaceful garden area, so you're always sure to find a quiet spot.
The location couldn't be better. L'Escala, just five minutes' drive away at the southern end of the magnificent seep of the Bay of Roses, is a large town and offers all manner of services including sailing, diving, kayaking as well as a host of shops and restaurants. Just beyond L'Escala don't miss the impressive Roman ruins of Empuries once an important port and warehouse for the riches of the empire.
Getting out and about couldn't be easier with good motorway links to Girona (50mins) and Figueras (30mins) whilst Cadaques, Dali's favourite seaside bolt-hole, is just over an hour away. To the south all the pretty seaside villages sit within an hours' drive.
For the more active this is a great base for all water sports and there's superb walking locally along the Cami de Ronda coastal path or inland to the abandoned castle of Montgro.
