Hotel Sant Roc
HCDP1, Calella de Palafrugell, Catalonia
Family-run hotel with picture-perfect views of the Costa Brava
Every view is a postcard from this delightful family-run hotel perched on a headland at the end of the bay in Callela de Palafrugell.
Owned by the same family for three generations the service is truly exceptional and the hotel has kept up with the times whilst maintaining its traditional, Mediterranean essence.
All rooms have either a small balcony or terrace and the views are lovely from all but the star of the show is the restaurant and terrace with stunning panoramic views over the bay, the village below and a spectacular sunrise.
Head down the steps and the beach is just five minutes' walk from the hotel with a good selection of bars and restaurants and, if you're feeling energetic Llafranc, the next picture-perfect village, is 20 minutes further on.
Right on the Cami de Ronda, the path that runs the length of the Catalan coast, this is the perfect base for walking (gentle or otherwise) and for exploring the Costa Brava with its string of picturesque villages and beaches. Heading inland Girona, with its rich Jewish history, is just 40minutes' drive and Dali's Figueras an hour away.
For the more active the area is famed for its diving and sea kayaking or sailing excursions are available (just ask reception). Should you wish to go further afield on the Cami de Ronda, a full day's walking perhaps, taxi options are available.

Calella de Palafrugell, Catalonia
At the heart of the Costa Brava the picture-postcard seaside village of Calella de Palafrugell and its Siamese-twin Llafranc make the ideal base to discover this beautiful part of Catalunya.
Well preserved with traditional fisherman’s houses set behind a string of sandy bays and rocky headlands, this is a more tranquil part of the Mediterranean coast but nonetheless offers so much to see and do.
Running through the villages, and all the way through the Costa Brava, the Cami de Ronda walking path is a sheer delight with stunning views of the Med at every turn. The area is renowned for its diving (good centres in Llafranc) and is a paradise for sailors and water sports enthusiasts of all kinds.
Inland the medieval villages of Pals and Peratallada make an interesting visit as does Girona with its rich Jewish heritage and fortified Cathedral.
Seafood is obviously a highlight here but there are also fine local ingredients from the nearby mountains all served up with Catalán flare – and the fine local wines of the Empordá region to accompany…
- Walk the Camí de Ronda
- Sailing, stand-up paddle and diving
- Cycling on the local Via-Verdes
- Empordá wine region – visit bodegas

- Beach hopping along the Costa Brava
- Dalís Figueras and Cadaqués
