Jeréz de la Frontera, Andalucia
Just 20km from the Atlantic coast Jeréz provides an elegant base from which to explore the region of Cádiz and the Costa de la Luz as well as the beautiful Sierra de Grazalema which is within easy reach.
The town's economy is based on the Sherry wine to which it gives its name, with strong British links dating back centuries. As a wine-tourism destination it's unusual in that all the main bodegas are conveniently located in the centre of town. This, combined with the fine selection of restaurants and 'tabancos' (sherry bars) make it a great base for a gastronomic visit – and if wine is really your thing Sanlucar de Barrameda and Puerto de Santa María are both just a short drive or bus trip away.
Jeréz is also famous for the dancing white horses of the Royal Equestrian Art School and for its fine Flamenco culture – you'll always find a good 'tablao'
Cádiz, the region's capital and Europe's oldest city, is also within easy reach as are the seaside towns and villages of the Costa de la Luz and the Doñana National Park, with its amazing birdlife, is just over the river from Sanlucar de Barrameda.
