Housed in a traditional, wood & stone, mountain-style building, this family-run hotel occupies a privileged position across from the church, right on the pretty village square of Erill la Vall.

The ground floor hosts the reception and popular restaurant, both decorated in a modern style with natural materials. Rooms are on the upper floors and are also decorated in a simple style bringing out the natural wood and stone and offering views of the village and mountains.

On warmer days, guests can enjoy drinks in the shady courtyard or the sunny roof terrace. The hotel restaurant is highly recommended, offering a menu that blends traditional recipes with local ingredients. On the first floor, there is a games room where guests can relax after a day of hiking.

The helpful owners live at the rear of the hotel.

Erill la Vall, Catalonia

Just up the hill from Boí and Taüll, the two main villages in the Vall de Boí, pretty little Erill la Vall is perfectly placed to enjoy all the highlights of this wonderful valley whilst, being slightly off the beaten track, remaining unspoilt and tranquil.

The village boasts two restaurants and one of the prettiest of the Romanesque churches for which the valley is justly famous – and which enjoy World Heritage status.

There’s a direct path leading down to Boí (about 950m) where the ‘mountain taxis’ (actually small shuttle buses) gather to ferry walkers up to the higher walks (a superb service, leading to accessible trails, not to be missed). You can follow the same, well-marked path around the whole valley should you wish, visiting various picturesque villages each with its corresponding church whilst taking in the beautiful mountain views.

  • Visit the World heritage Romanesque Churches – a rich cultural heritage of early ‘Lombard’ Romanesque architecture starting with Santa Eulalia de Erill la Vall.
  • Do not miss the laser-mapped light show in Sant Climent to Taüll – Romanesque frescoes in all their original glory.
  • Hiking in Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park: Explore the stunning landscapes, glacial lakes, and diverse wildlife.
  • Use the shuttle-bus ‘taxi’ service to Planell d'Aigüestortes (high plain) for highly accessible walking in the Vall de Sant Nicolau and the lake of Llebreta (there’s even a wheelchair accessible route so everyone can enjoy the spectacular scenery)
  • Drive or walk around the valley and explore the villages, each with its cluster of stone-built cottages set around the church.
  • Visit Vielha, the charming capital of Val d'Aran with its picturesque streets, shops, and lively restaurants.
  • Mountain biking, canoeing, rafting – and al manner of activities in the ‘Outdoor Park’ of Vall de Boí
  • Wildlife Watching – take guided tours to spot local wildlife, including deer, eagles, and even brown bears in their natural habitats.
  • Relax and soak in the hot spring waters in the Spa of Caldes de Boí
